How do I find my accident report in Virginia?
Requesting an accident report by mail
To request a report by mail, you must either submit a written report or print and complete an Information Request Form (CRD 93).
If you decide to go with a written request, you must include:
- Crash involvement (e.g., driver, injured person, vehicle owner, etc.)
- Crash date and time
- Crash location (street, city/town/county)
- Driver name
- Driver's license number (must be provided if the requester was involved in the crash)
Once you have either your written request or Information Request Form (CRD 93), you will need to mail it along with an $8.00 fee per crash report requested in the form of a check or money order to:
Requesting an accident report by fax
To request a report by fax, you must either submit a written report or print and complete anInformation Request Form (CRD 93). You must include all the information needed for a request sent via mail, with the addition of "License, ID Card and Records Payment Authorization" (form DMS 004).
Requesting an accident report in person
If you would rather go in person to request your accident report in Virginia, you can do so by visiting your local DMV location. Make sure to bring your completed written request or Information Request Form (CRD 93)along with cash, check, money order, or credit card to pay the $8 crash report fee. As long as your report is available, this is the quickest way to get an accident report as you should be able to get it that same day.

Virginia Accident Reports - FAQ
There are two ways to obtain an accident report in Virginia. The first is through their Information Request Form (CRD 93) in which you’ll have to fill it out with the following information:
- Requestor information
- Indication of your involvement in the crash
- Crash date
- Time of crash
- Crash location
- City/county/town where crash occurred
- Driver name
- Driver license number
- Passenger information
However, if you prefer to do a written request, you must include the following:
- Crash involvement (e.g., driver, injured person, vehicle owner, etc.)
- Crash date and time
- Crash location (street, city/town/county)
- Driver name
- Driver's license number (must be provided if the requester was involved in the crash)
According to § 46.2-380 of the Code of Virginia, the DMV will only release a complete crash report to persons involved in the crash or to their authorized representatives. This includes the following:
- Driver
- Passenger
- Injured person
- Personal representative of any person involved (e.g., conservator, executor, next of kin, etc.) of person injured or killed
- Attorney representing any person injured or involved
- Authorized representative of an insurance company
- Parent or legal guardian of a minor (under age 18) injured or killed
However, individuals not involved in a crash may still be able to obtain some information. In accordance with § 46.2-379 of the Code of Virginia, DMV may disclose some information from a police crash report (FR300P) on request of any person allowed under another federal or state law to obtain such information.
The information that may be provided to those not involved in a crash could be:
- Date, time, and location of the crash
- Name and address of each driver
- Name of each vehicle owner
- Name of each injured person
- Name of each witness
- Name of one investigating officer
If you want to file a car accident report in Virginia, you can fill out the Voluntary Report of a Crash form (FR 200).
