This accident occurred on Sunday, February 18th 2024 at approximately 1:22 am. Injuries were reported. An officer from Newark Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit # 1; according to witnesses; was eastbound on W. Main St. near N. 11th St. when it struck the metal traffic signal pole. The vehicle then struck the building at 399 W. Main St. Debris; including one of Unit #1's tires; flew off and struck a parked; unoccupied vehicle at 395 W. Main St. Both the driver and front seat passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported via helicopter to Grant Hospital in Columbus; Ohio. Unit #1 was subsequently impounded. Grant Hospital later advised that the driver succumbed to his injuries. The passenger is expected to survive.
