This accident occurred on Saturday, January 27th 2024 at approximately 9:14 am. Injuries were reported. An officer from Northfield Center (Township of) Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.

Unit #2 was traveling northbound on State Route 8 entering the ramp to Interstate Route 271 north. Unit #2 failed to maintain control driving off the roadway to the right; striking the cement barrier; striking a light pole; rolling over the cement barrier; ignited into an explosion; continuing off the bridge; striking powerlines; causing a utility post to snap in half; striking a second light pole; before coming to final rest partially on the State Route 8 southbound bridge below and guard rail. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by Summit County Medical Examiner. Interstate Towing towed and stored Unit #2 at D & L Tow yard for safe keeping. Unit #1 was traveling southbound on State Route 8 during the incident and was struck by falling debris; as it passed under the I-271 northbound ramp. Unit #1 sustained functional damage and was driven off scene. EPA; HEPCO; and ODOT responded for additional evaluation of the scene. Sergeant Peters advised and on scene.
