This accident, involving 1 vehicle occurred on Sunday, November 5th 2023 at approximately 1:04 am. The driver of silver Kia (2015) drove off road. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbia (Township of) Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.

Unit 1 was traveling northbound on IR-71; approaching the 9.8 milepost. As Unit 1 continued northbound the driver reportedly fell asleep; causing Unit 1 to travel off the right side of the roadway.Unit 1 then struck a guardrail with the right front and side portion of the vehicle. Unit 1 was then re-directed back onto the roadway; as it veered towards the left side of the roadway; and collided head on with the concrete median barrier.  During the collision with the median barrier the unrestrained driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at U.C. Hospital by Dr. Jason Schrager at 1341 hrs. on 11-7-2023.
