This accident, involving 2 vehicles occurred on Friday, September 22nd 2023 at approximately 10:17 pm. The driver of blue; dark Hyundai (2014) failure to yield. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Operator of Unit 2 stated he was traveling south on Cleveland Ave approaching E 23rd Ave. He stated Unit 1 was traveling north on Cleveland Ave and was making a left turn to head west on E 23rd Ave when he struck it in the passenger side; continuing on to collide with a concrete island at the gas station on the southwest corner of the intersection. Operator of Unit 2 was transported to Grant Hospital by CFD Medic 1. Unit 2 was impounded and held for evidence. Operator of Unit 1 stated she did not know what happened in the crash and admitted she had a few drinks earlier in the day. Officers obtained a search warrant for her blood. Operator of Unit 1 was transported to OSU Main Hospital by CFD Medic 7. Unit 1 was impounded and held for evidence. Occupant 1 of Unit 1 stated she did not know what happened in the crash. Occupant 1 was transported to OSU Main Hospital by CFD Medic 20. Occupant 2 of Unit 1 was transported to Grant Hospital by CFD Medic 20. Occupants 3; 4; and 5 of Unit 1 were transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital by Clinton Township Medic 162; CFD Medic 8; and Clinton Township Medic 162; respectively. Occupants 3-6 were unrestrained in the rear of Unit 1 but their exact positions are unknown. Officers viewed crime camera footage of the accident which showed Unit 1 failing to yield to Unit 2 and hesitating in the intersection; leading to the crash.
