This accident, involving 3 vehicles occurred on Tuesday, May 30th 2023 at approximately 7:59 pm. The driver of white BMW (2014) unsafe speed. Injuries were reported. An officer from Reading Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit 1; a motorcycle; was traveling north on US-42 (Reading Road) in the right lane approaching the SR-126 overpass. Unit 2 was traveling south on US-42 in the left turn lane to go east onto E. Galbraith Road. Unit 1 began to accelerate at a high rate of speed prior to the overpass and changed into the left lane. Unit 1 approached the intersection of US-42 and E. Galbraith Road with a green traffic signal and Unit 2 had a green traffic signal. The operator of Unit 2 began to make a left turn onto E. Galbraith Road when Unit 1 approached at a speed that was greater than double the posted speed limit. The operator of Unit 1 applied his brakes leaving over 127 feet of tire marks as Unit 2 encroached into the path of Unit 1. With its front end; Unit 1 struck the right side of Unit 2. The operator of Unit 1 was separated from his motorcycle and landed on the asphalt pavement in the intersection. Unit 1 broke apart; causing a piece of it to strike Unit 3 which was traveling south on US-42 as it was traveling through the intersection at the time. The operator of Unit 1 was transported to University Hospital by the Reading Fire Department where he succumbed to his injuries.The operator of Unit 2 was transported to Bethesda North Hospital by the Reading Fire Department for non-life-threatening injuries.
