This accident, involving 2 vehicles occurred on Monday, July 3rd 2023 at approximately 10:25 pm. The driver of burgundy (purple) Chrysler (2010) improper backing. Injuries were reported. An officer from Findlay Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit 1 was stopped in front of an address in the 900 block of Sherwood Ave. facing eastbound. A pedestrian (Unit 2) was walking next to Unit 1. The operator of Unit 1 failed to put the vehicle's transmission in park. Unit 1 began to move in reverse and the pedestrian was behind it. Unit 1 struck the pedestrian causing them to fall to the ground. Unit 1 sustained no damage. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was later pronounced deceased at Blanchard Valley Hospital (1900 S. Main St.). On 7/4/2023 at around 0600 hrs. I completed mapping pictures of the street and surrounding area of the crash scene using the department drone (Maverick 2). Ofcr M. Schroeder #2033 On 7/4/2023 at 0200 hours I was dispatched to 1416 Westside Dr. to make contact with Jack Kaiser. I was requested inform him of the death of the male involved in the accident and to see if Jack wished to supply a written statement. Jack informed me that he heard the news of the male's passing from the males wife. Jack was asked for the citation that was issued to him and informed that he was not being cited at this time and a further investigation was taking place. He collected the citation and handed it to me. I asked Jack if he wished to supply a written statement. Jack stated that he wanted to speak to his lawyer before making any written statement.
