This accident, involving 3 vehicles occurred on Wednesday, June 28th 2023 at approximately 4:58 pm. The driver of black Chevrolet (2017) failure to yield. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
On 6/28/2023; at approximately 4:58 PM; Unit #1 was traveling Eastbound on Morse Rd; in the left turn lane to turn North onto Sinclair Rd. Unit #2 was traveling Westbound on Morse Rd. Unit #3 was traveling Eastbound on Morse Rd. Unit #1 had a green light and made a left hand turn onto Sinclair Rd; and struck Unit #2. Driver #2 flew off of Unit #2 and landed on Morse Rd. A tire flew off of Unit #2 and hit Unit #3. Unit #2 caught on fire. Driver #2 was transported to Riverside Hospital in critical condition in CFD Medic #24. Driver #2 was pronounced dead at 5:35 PM by Dr. Scott at Riverside Hospital. Witness #1 stated she was sitting at the red light; facing South on Sinclair Rd; when she observed Unit #1 strike Unit #2 . Witness #2 was driving Eastbound on Morse Rd; just before the light at Sinclair Rd; and observed Unit #1 make the left turn and strike Unit #2. Witnesses #3 and #4 were driving Eastbound on Morse Rd; and observed Unit #2 weaving in and out of lanes; and saw Unit #1 turn left and strike Unit #2. Witness #5 was traveling Westbound on Morse Rd; and observed Unit #2 traveling Westbound on Morse at a high rate of speed; and weaving between cars. Witness #5 said Unit #2 lost control and said Unit #2 was going at least 60MPH. Both Unit #1 and Unit #2 received disabling damage and were towed to the City Impound Lot by Protow. AIU came out and processed the scene.
