Traffic Unit #1 was traveling south on Woodman Drive and when at south of E Stroop Road apparently lost control and drove over the west curb or went off the road and collided with a tree. Traffic Unit 1 was traveling south on Woodman Drive approaching E Stroop Road. Witness 1 was stopped at the intersection facing south on Woodman Drive in their vehicle. The traffic control signal changed to green to allow north and south traffic on Woodman Avenue. Witness 1 looked in his rear view mirror and saw Traffic Unit 1 approaching him at a high rate of speed. Traffic Unit 1 suddenly turned to the left; avoided a collision with witness 1; and drove left of center on Woodman Drive into the southbound traffic lane. Witness 1 saw traffic unit 1 turn back to the right to go into the southbound traffic lane of Woodman Drive. Traffic Unit 1 struck the raised median as it was getting back into the southbound lane. Traffic unit 1 then went over the west curb on Woodman Avenue; off the road; crossed the sidewalk; and struck a tree just west of the sidewalk where the vehicle came to rest. The operator of Traffic Unit 1 was transported to Kettering Medical where he was later pronounced deceased. Witness 1 completed a written statement.
