Unit #1 was southbound on Wilmington Pike and when near Ansel Drive ran off the roadway on the right side; crossing a parking lot; and striking a tree. It continued approximately 50 ft. south through the grass until coming to a stop. Driver of Unit #1 Roger Reynolds succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Transported to Kettering Medical Center by Kettering Fire Department who attempted life saving measures while en route. According to witness statements and video footage captured by city cameras; unit 1 was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and; after passing Ansel Ave; went off the roadway over the right curb; continued through a parking lot at 2717 Wilmington; and struck a tree. Unit 1 then continued approximately 50 more feet until it came to a stop. Driver was entrapped and had to be removed with KFD rescue tools. There were multiple empty beer cans (Miller High Life) scattered around unit 1. The speedometer was found to be stuck at 94mph. EV and AIT responded for investigation. Unit 1 towed by Sandy's. Footage of the crash from the city cameras was uploaded to the report.
