This accident, involving 1 vehicle occurred on Tuesday, April 11th 2023 at approximately 11:10 pm. The driver of silver Honda (1990) unsafe speed. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Officers were dispatched to a report of an injury crash at Progress Ave and Moler Rd. Officers encountered Unit 1 crashed at the dead end of Progress Ave facing northbound north of the intersection with Moler Rd. Driver of Unit 1 was transported by CFD Medic 815 to Grant Hospital in life-threatening condition; and was pronounced deceased at 23:41. Witness 1 stated that he observed Unit 1 accelerating northbound on Progress Ave at a high rate of speed. Witness 1 stated that he observed Unit 1 attempting to brake before the dead end. Witness 1 stated that he believed Unit 1's brakes failed and that Driver of Unit 1 then deployed the emergency brake and locked up his wheels. Witness 1 estimated that Unit 1 was traveling at least 60 MPH when it struck the fence on the north side of Moler Rd and the concrete wall directly behind the fence. Although there were numerous other people and cars on scene that were leaving as Officers arrived; none stayed on scene or claimed to have witnessed the crash besides Witness 1.
