Unit #1 was driving westbound on Livingston Ave. Unit #2 was driving eastbound on Livingston Ave in the left lane. Unit #1 travelled left of the centerline on Livingston Ave striking unit #2 head on. Unit #1 spun out after the crash striking a fence belonging to 4485 E Livingston Ave where unit #1 stayed as it's final resting place. Unit #2 spun around after the crash to it's final resting place in the middle lane of Livingston Ave facing westbound. CFD medic 21 and CFD engine 23 were the first responding units to the crash. CFD engine 23 pronounced the death of the driver of unit #2 at 19:10. CFD Medic 21 transported the driver of unit #1 to Mount Caramel East at 19:20 critical and unstable. Officers spoke with a witness who stated that she was driving directly behind unit #2 travelling eastbound. Witness stated that there was a COTA bus in the lane to the right of her and unit #2. Witness stated that she saw unit #1 who appeared to be travelling at a speed greater than the speed limit. Witness stated that unit #1 swerved left crossing the centerline; witness denied knowing why unit #1 began to swerve; but it did appear like unit #1 was accelerating. Witness stated that unit #2 was struck by unit #1; witness denied unit #2 taking any evasive action; it appeared that unit #2 did not notice unit #1 approaching.
