Unit 2 was NB on IR 71 approaching 247MP when the front of Unit 2 collided with the rear of Unit 1; that was stopped in the #2 lane of traffic. Both vehicles continued in a northerly direction; colliding with the west concrete barrier wall. Unit 1 then traveled on top of the concrete barrier; becoming airborne for a brief period; overturning on a steel guardrail; and coming to a final rest on its roof. Unit 2 then traveled in a northeasterly direction; colliding with the east concrete barrier wall; down a grass embankment; striking a road sign; and coming to a controlled stop on the west median of the exit ramp to IR 90WB to IR 490 EB.
