Description

Additional Narrative

Unit 1; Unit 2; Unit 3; Unit 4; Unit 5; and Unit 6 were traveling northeast on Interstate Route 70 near mile post 84 approaching the construction zone. Unit 2; Unit 3; Unit 5; and Unit 6 stopped for traffic in the left lane and Unit 4 stopped for traffic in the right lane. Unit 1 failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and struck Unit 2 in the rear. Unit 1 traveled off the left side of the road and struck Unit 3 on the side before coming to final rest. Unit 2 struck Unit 3 in the rear and caught on fire. Unit 2 continued northeast and struck Unit 4 in the right lane before coming to final rest in the left lane. Unit 3 then struck Unit 5 in the rear causing it to spin to the right and strike Unit 6 in the rear. Unit 3 continued off the left side of the road where it was struck by Unit 1 before coming to final rest.
