This accident, involving 3 vehicles occurred on Thursday, December 8th 2022 at approximately 7:38 pm. The driver of other improper action. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Officers responded to the collision that occurred on State Route 16 (E Broad St) west of Bannockburn Blvd. Unit #2 was traveling (south)west in the left lane; when she noticed that Unit #1 was walking in the travel lane in front of her with his back turned to on coming traffic. Unti #2 attempted to swerve to miss Unit #1; but struck Unit #1; and then swerved into the (north)east bound lanes of E Broad St; and struck Unit #3. Unit #3 stated that he was traveling (north)east in the right lane of E Broad St; and heard something strike Unit #3. Witness #1 stated that Unit #1 was walking (south)west in the left straight lane of E Broad St (approximately 2 feet into the left lane away from the continuous turn lane; and observed Unit #2 strike Unit #1. Columbus Fire Medic 5 and Medic 35 responded to the scene and transported both Unit #1 and the driver of Unit #2 to Mt Carmel East hospital. Unit #1 was later pronounced as deceased; and the driver of Unit #2 was treated for non life-threatening injuries by medical staff. **Unit #3 had an out of state license; therefore officer selected A license type to make the the report compliant; and officer used Witness #1's work address; as Witness #1 is a Columbus Fire Medic.**
