This accident, involving 2 vehicles occurred on Thursday, December 1st 2022 at approximately 4:15 pm. The driver of blue Toyota (2008) drove off road. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit 1 was traveling northbound on N. Waggoner Rd when the driver of Unit 1 fell asleep; and veered to the right and drove off the road. Unit 1 then struck a pedestrian; who was legally walking on the side of the road. Unit 1 then struck a pole after striking a pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported in critical condition to Mt. Carmel East by Columbus Medic 35. The driver of Unit 1 was transported in stable condition to Mt. Carmel East by Jefferson Township Medic 141. Attending physicians stated to Officers that the pedestrian would die as a result of his injuries. Accident Investigation Unit detectives were advised; and came to scene to collect evidence. Unit 1's driver was attended to by physicians; and would not have any long term effects of the accident. A witness at the scene stated that he saw the Unit 1 drive off of the road; and strike the pedestrian.
