This accident occurred on Thursday, September 29th 2022 at approximately 1:35 pm. Injuries were reported. An officer from GIBSON (TOWNSHIP OF) Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit #1 was traveling east on Fox Rd. approaching the intersection of Fox Rd. and St. Rte. 49. Unit #2 was traveling north on St. Rte. 49 approaching the intersection of St. Rte. 49 and Fox Rd. Based on witnesses and the crash scene its believed that Unit #1 was traveling above the posted speed limit of 55 MPH approaching the intersection. It appears Unit #1 attempted to brake just prior to entering the intersection due to skid marks on the roadway. Unit #1 ran the posted stop sign at a high rate of speed and Unit #2 that was northbound struck the middle area of Unit #1 trailer. Unit #2 could not have seen Unit #1 traveling on Fox Rd. due to a tree line that runs along the south side of Fox Rd. up to the intersection. Unit #2 then traveled underneath the trailer causing the trailer to become airborne while the trailers rear axle struck Unit #2 and became unattached and both the trailers rear axle and Unit #2 came to final rest in the northeast corner of the intersection on the lawn of the property owned by 1022 St. Rte. 49 causing minor damage to the lawn. The semi and trailer continued eastbound with the trailer striking a guardrail and riding up along top the guardrail; dropping off into a side ditch; and then being pulled back onto the roadway to final rest. Unit #1 trailer is a white 2023 enclosed box Utility Trailer with Oregon temporary tags TH09503 and VIN: 1UYVS2531P389
