This accident, involving 1 vehicle occurred on Friday, September 30th 2022 at approximately 3:43 am. The driver of red Mazda (2015) unsafe speed. Injuries were reported. An officer from MACEDONIA Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.

Witnesses stated that Unit #1 was traveling I-271 southbound at a high rate of speed. Just north of SR 82 the road curves to the right. Unit #1 appears to have driven straight into the median cable barrier with no signs of braking. Unit #1 went through the cable barrier and continued south driving on the grass center median. Unit #1 drove over a sewer drain and then drove left into oncoming traffic. Unit #1 drove across all the northbound lanes and struck the cement wall on the east side of the bridge over SR 82. Unit #1 then crossed back across all the northbound lanes and went into the center median. Unit #1 stuck the wire median barrier and came to rest. The driver was unresponsive with agonal breathing. Macedonia Fire provided emergency medical treatment and transported the driver to Akron City where he was pronounced deceased. r n r nThis accident is currently under investigation by the Summit Metro Crash Response Team (SMCRT) and the Summit County Medical Examiner.
