This accident, involving 3 vehicles occurred on Friday, July 15th 2022 at approximately 11:55 pm. The driver of black Hyundai (2018) following too close / acda. Injuries were reported. An officer from Akron Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit 1 was traveling eastbound on E Waterloo Rd approaching Massillon Rd. Unit 2 was stopped facing eastbound on E Waterloo at Massillon Rd with a red light. Unit 1 failed to stop for the red light striking Unit 2 in the rear propelling it into to the intersection where it came to rest facing westbound. Unit 1 continued eastbound through the intersection into the westbound lanes leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole coming to rest in front of 1289 George Washington Blvd. Unit 3 was traveling eastbound on E Waterloo making a left (northbound) turn onto George Washington Blvd at the time of the crash and was struck by debris in flight from the crash causing minor damage to the right rear of Unit 3. The drivers of both units were taken to Akron City Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of Unit 2 was pronounced deceased at Akron City Hospital. The driver of Unit 1 was read the BMV form 2255 and refused to submit to a test.
