This accident, involving 2 vehicles occurred on Tuesday, September 6th 2022 at approximately 12:11 am. The driver of blue Chevrolet (2009) unsafe speed. Injuries were reported. An officer from TOLEDO Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
On the listed date and time; unit 1 and unit 2 were northwest Monroe at Sylvania. Unit 2 was reportedly stopped at the red light when unit 1 sideswiped the driver side of unit 2. Unit 1 continued through the intersection; running the red light; continuing northwest on Monroe. Unit 1 struck the curb of the north most island in the intersection; causing the car to veer right and slide towards a tree in the Apple Bee's parking lot; striking the tree with the driver side rear quarter panel. This impact caused the car to veer left; continuing across the Apple Bee's parking lot. Unit 1 then struck the Apple Bee's restaurant pole with the passenger side front end. This impact was hard enough to throw the engine/ power train block out of the car. Unit 1 finally came to rest about 30 feet northwest of the pole. The driver of unit 1 did not utilize the seatbelt; he was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated via TFD. The driver of unit 1 was transported to Toledo Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 0103 hours. While this unit was on scene investigating; family of the driver of unit 1 arrived after seeing information of the accident on the news. The family was advised to go to Toledo Hospital where they were then advised of the deceased.
