This accident, involving 2 vehicles occurred on Monday, June 27th 2022 at approximately 1:20 am. The driver of red Toyota (2017) wrong way. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
The crash occurred on IR270N just south of Morse Rd at 1:20am on 6/25/22. Unit 1 was traveling the wrong way (southbound in the northbound lanes) on IR 270N in the northbound #1 lane (far left lane). Unit 2 was northbound IR 270N approaching Morse Rd in the #1 (far left lane). Unit 1 struck Unit 2 head on. Unit 1 caught fire and became fully engulfed. Unit 2 occupants were trapped inside the vehicle. Unit 1 came to rest with its left side on the guard rail in the median of IR270N. The occupants of Unit 2 needed to be extricated using mechanical means. Unit 1 was transported to Mt. Caramel East Hospital in stable condition by Mifflin Township Medic 134. The driver of Unit 2 was transported to Riverside Hospital by CFD Medic 20 in critical life threatening later upgraded to stable. The front right seat passenger of Unit 2 was 5 months pregnant and transported by CFD Medic 28 to Mt. Caramel East Hospital in Critical life threatening. The passenger of Unit 2's unborn child died as a result of this crash. Unit 1 was treated for a broken rib by Dr. Turner; The occupant of Unit 2 was treated for a broken femur; lacerated spleen; broken wrist; and ruptured uterus by Dr. Turner. The driver of Unit 2 was treated for a broken leg by Dr. Dickson. The driver of Unit 1 was placed under arrest for OVI. Unit 1 was released on a request for direct indictment.
