This accident, involving 1 vehicle occurred on Thursday, March 31st 2022 at approximately 2:07 pm. The driver of black Lexus (2001) swerving to avoid. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Witness 1 stated that he was driving NB on S. High St. when Unit 1 and another vehicle flew by him at approximately 90-100 mph. Wit 1 stated that as Unit 1 approached the traffic light at Williams Road; the traffic signal turned yellow and a vehicle that was waiting to turn left from S. High St to EB Williams Rd began to turn. Wit 1 stated Unit 1 swerved to miss the vehicle and veered off into the SB lanes then struck a pole. Wit 1 stated it appeared the two cars were racing each other. Wit 1 believed the other vehicle was a white Honda; which turned east onto Williams Road as the accident occurred. Witness 2 (Lee Hughes; 614-209-8574) & 3 (Maria Bowers; 614-735-4563) were riding together NB on S. High Street and gave the exact same story that Wit 1 gave. Unit 1 also drove by them at a very high rate of speed and said Unit 1 ran the red light and swerved to miss a turning vehicle; then lost control. Wit #4 (Carlos Lewis; 614-493-5851) was standing outside by the CVS at the intersection when he watched Unit 1 swerve to miss a car and then strike the pole at a high rate of speed. Wit 5 ( Rossi Branham; 614-405-1804; 3429 Bragg St) stated they may have the accident on camera.
