This accident, involving 1 vehicle occurred on Tuesday, March 15th 2022 at approximately 3:20 am. The driver of white Toyota (2006) unsafe speed. Injuries were reported. An officer from Maumee Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Unit 1 was traveling eastbound on Old Trail Road from the Monclova Rd intersection. Unit 1 went off road from Old Trail Road near the curve of W. Wayne Street and crashed into a pole and then a tree. Unit 1 caught fire. The driver of Unit 1 became trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted after the fire was extinguished. Unit 1 prounounced dead at the scene. No skid marks on the road before leaving the roadway. There were tire marks in the westbound land which led up to the curve where the vehicle went off road. It is unknown if Unit 1 was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash as it was badly burnt. An MPD detective was called to the scene for the death investigation and the Lucas County Coroner responded to take possession of the body. The identity of the driver of Unit 1 is unknown at this time. There are no signs of any other vehicles being involved in this crash. Unit 1 was towed away from the scene by V.J.'s towing.
